New Case Study - NEW OPTI-FLO® HOT RUNNER MANIFOLD SYSTEMS REDUCE SET-UP AND OVERALL CYCLE TIME.

NEW OPTI-FLO® HOT RUNNER MANIFOLD SYSTEMS REDUCE SET-UP AND OVERALL CYCLE TIME. Recent tests performed on an Opti-Flo® hot runner system using the patented
MeltFlipper™ technology proved that establishing new process parameters required only a fraction of the time normally spent in developing a steady state condition. Multiple cavity systems normally require “fine tuning” of the hot runner nozzle temperatures in order to achieve balanced filling which may require several hours. The material processed in this experiment was nylon. Using an “industry standard” 16 drop hot runner system, the temperature set point variation was between 580 degrees F to 680 degrees F, in order to achieve a balanced filling condition. Using the Opti-Flo® system, ALL nozzle temperatures were set at 635 degrees while at the same time achieving a balanced fill condition and eliminating the “fine tuning”.

It is obvious that mold cooling is required to compensate for the highest material temperature realized. In this comparison, it is the material processed at a nozzle temperature of 680 degrees in the “standard system or, 635 degrees in the Opti-Flo™ system. This difference has a direct effect on the cooling portion of the overall cycle time, meaning reduced cycle time
